ANyone been down for this this year? Think Im heading down as I missed last night.

I've been down there a few times recently and it's cool. Very - weirdly - chilled way to do quite intense training. I like to warm up in the medium-pace group and then move up to the fast group for the next session. they start quite early - I usually rock up around 6.45 and they've already been going for a bit.

Cool, thanks Tom. I'll try and get there as early as poss.

I think this starts this week. Who's going?
-
• #56
It started last week actually - but I'll be there this week.

Can anyone do it or do you have to have legs like The Terminators?
-
• #58
As long as you have a race license anyone can do it.
Normally there is a Slow, med and fast group.
Tell the drivers you are new to derny and then you sign your life away and get an induction.

Waiting for get my derny licence so I can help out with driving.

What would be the ideal gear ratio for the medium and fast groups?
-
• #62
I ride 90" which is the same gearing I use for Saturday sessions.
-
• #63
Yea i don't gear up at all for derny training (88"). probably depends what you want to get out of the session though.
-
• #64
There are benefits to overgearing, those behind the fast derny may want to consider doing that further into the season.
-
• #65
want to come along to this tonight if I get out of work in time.
How long do they normally go on for? -
• #66
until your hands and balls are completely numb.
-
• #67
sounds awesome.
I prolly wont be able to get there til 7:00... so it was more a question to weather there is any point coming at that time or not! -
• #68
Sunset is 19:55 tonight, so depending on when you are ready to ride and timing of sessions (one may just have started) you may only get one 15/20 minute session in, but possibly two.

until your hands and balls are completely numb.
I get that just thinking about dernys
-
• #70
how was it?
I'm still at work... :( -
• #71
Really good session tonight. Two dernys out, Both going medium to fast pace. Light wind.
Small groups on each.
Perfect night really..
-
• #72
thanks to the coaches for being so ace. I am hooked to this now!
-
• #73
What would be a sensible progression in terms of numbers of normal sessions attended before trying out the derny?
-
• #74
You need to be able to ride confidently and smoothly in close formation behind a fast moving derny. There is normally one 'slow' derny on a Thursday evening, so you don't have to be super fit. I'd suggest maybe half a dozen Saturday Intermediate training sessions...and ask any of the Saturday morning coaches, who will be happy to advise.

Anyone riding or going to the Dernyfest at Herne Hill on Saturday afternoon?
I'm going to try and get away from work in enough time to make the session. My guess is it will run til 7.30 or so.... hopefully.
