Where is the starting point for this ride?
-
• #80
I woke up and decided to just ride to Brighton, got over half way and my tire decided
To tear it up. Lucky for me it happens right next to a fixed feind now with gumwall tire and 40psi
Headed to train station only to find it closed, the nearest train staion was 9 miles away. Which is where I am now.
Never use amadillos again, FACT. -

ok so route is tbc, manic week at work.
start point will be trafalgar square.
-
• #82
right ho then.
this is the route we will be taking.
start point will be at the corner of trafalgar square nearest the roundabout.
it will be slightly different to some brighton runs you'll have seen but these are quiet roads for the most with the only notable busy section being through croyden and then a small section of a-road.it takes in highlights like slugwash lane and of course the ditchling.
ride information and the like will be posted a week before the ride.

Took you out smiff and fixed the numbering.
I was going to do FNRttC Brighton on 13 May but they now have a registration fee and you need insurance (fuck that!) so this will be my first LFGSS ride instead :D
I ride 49/15 (86 GI). How big is this hill again...?

just realised this is going to be my first lfgss ride...not really concerned but still wondering if the pace is going to be hardcore or not.
First 60 miles ride too, so wonder if riding 46/17 will be appropriate for flat sections + mighty hill at the end? -
• #87
Even quite fast with minimal stops this ride is a piece of piss. If it's sunny I'd recommend taking it easy as it's quite picturesque, and we can have a leisurely pint and pack of crisps on top of Turners Hill.

Space for three more? Me (fixed), Gemma (geared) and Menno (single). Would be our first LFGSS ride.
Does the Brighton London train allow bikes on board these days? Quota?
-

of course :)
hmm there must be a quota but there will be regular trains so a staggered return journey will be needed

There isn't a quota, and reservations aren't required, but Southern can tell you to put your bike in the bike carriage or (worst case) refuse entry to the platform if too many bikes turn up at once. Definitely best to stagger. If it's sunny trains back in the evening can be busy.
The Thameslink (FCC) stock doesn't have much room for bikes, the old Gatwick Express trains have a lot, but it's worth remembering that the doors on the right only open at East Croydon on the Brighton - London Bridge route.
It's also worth knowing for trains back you need to ask for a off-peak day return groupsave @ £20 to get £5 each singles, even though you're only going one way. If you ask for a single to London groupsave it is more (£29) and according to the jobsworth behind the counter at Brighton yesterday (WAC) 'they have to sell you what you ask for' so if you ask for a groupsave single to London it will cost nearly a tenner more.

Yeah im capable of it, going to have a little practise run of 40 miles from cambridge to st ives and back. Im 13 going on 14 im guessing thats not what you mean by very young?
you bastard! you beat me as "youngest dude on the forum".
:) -
• #96
Yeah, looks good. Just checked the official policy...
The high volume of passengers who use our trains during the peak times means that we cannot accommodate ordinary cycles on Southern services at these times. This means on trains travelling towards either London or Brighton and due to arrive between 07:00 and 10:00 and trains leaving either London or Brighton between 16:00 and 19:00. Outside of these times, we accommodate ordinary cycles free of charge on our trains and without a prior reservation.

It is usually pretty easy, have taken my bike on those trains plenty of times.
However, as fox said the trains back to london are rammed on sunny days, or they were yesterday evening. -
