Thanks gents, they're all either rtf or doc files. I don't have the disks for Office. What's Open Office and will it allow me to use Excel etc. as well?. I'll try the 'open with' trick now and see what happens.
Thanks Pifko I do have gmail and can open Word docs in there (just to read) that have been sent to me (or I'm guessing that I send to myself as an attachment) but I can't open Word from anything on my desktop, or create or work on documents.
