I tried to explain memes to a mature student the other day. It was hopeless. They just don't seem funny at all when you try to explain them*.

Me:* "So a meme is like an internet in-joke that usually just takes everyday annoyances and makes them hilarious with these crudely drawn faces"*
Mature student:* "Ok....so what makes them so funny?"
Me: "Well...ok....look at this one, this is forever alone guy, he's forever alone and girls come up to him and he thinks they're going to ask him out but they actually just ask for a pen or something...which shows that he's forever alone....it's great!!"
Mature student: "......right"
Me: "Ok well here's 'y u no' guy and.....oh never mind."
