Shimano 105 5700 measurements?

Posted on
  • I am going to building a wheel, around a 36hole 105 5700 rear hub.

I am currently having no luck trying to find the hub flange dimensions and centre to right and left dimensions - so i can determine the spoke length.

(i am using this hub as the 5600 (which i can find dimensions for) hub is £10 more - and this is for a every single day of the winter commute so cheap and durable is no 1 priority).

Anyone know them? are they the same as the 5600 (most versions of the 105 rear hub seem to be)?

    Thanks, chris

  • Shimano and Campy have always kept the same hub dimensions during the years.
Tell me which rim you're building onto, and I'll tell you the spoke lenght :)

  • Thanks man,
i assumed as much. its to an mavic MA3 (36h) that i have in the garage from an old bike i took apart. i measured...one thing, people told me to "round up" the spoke length.

so, for a 292.4 spoke measurement do i order a 294 (closest length available), i hope so coz thats what ive done! (theoretical measurement, i cant remember the exact lengths off top o head).

    ha, rookie wheel builder here!

    ta, chris

  • On 3x: 294 non-drive, 292 drive side, with 12mm nipples

  • Tearing my hair out here, trying to find the rear 5700 hub dimensions. I suspect they're not the same as previous models, because Shimano's own tech doc%20Hub%20Specs.pdf) states that 5500 and 5600 were different. But of course it's a model year out of date.

Anyone know, or work in a bike shop and can quickly measure one for me?

  • Here you go, I'm busy building some:
    Front: Flange diameter: 38.0mm
Flange separation:68mm so centre to flange is 34mm

    Back:
    Flange diameter: non drive:44.6mm
    drive:same
LN to flange drive:47mm so centre to fl is 65-47=18mm
LN to flange non drive:29mm so centre to fl is 65-29=36mm
    OLN:130mm
flange sep is 53.5 so checking back:18+36=54mm so close enough!
    Good luck,
    Scherrit.

  • Brilliant - thank you very much.
