I bought a new cartridge/stylus for an old defunct turntable today in honour of record
storeshop day. Tomorrow I shall dust off some vinyl and "wig out". -

haha! I didnt make it to any of the 'official' shops , but did shoot the breeze in a couple of others today. proper saturday in England. bought a secondhand copy of 'altered states' book, 'Heat' on D.V.D and some Messiaen .
but I reeeeely need to know, are 'Metronomy' all that??
-
• #12
Good question. Hipster fluff or the new wave of new wave of new wave? You decide!
-
• #13

messiaen is good, except for all that god stuff he went on about

bump for TS
well I downloaded 'the Bay' which is the only reason for wanting to know about them (my gf is from Brixham) its pretty catchy and polished up, time will tell if I get the whole album,
anyway, was dragging it over and at the same time picked a free 'Merle et Noir' recital, so put it on and there on the ipod screen is a film of the players on stage- amazing! also, I just found a few podcasts that came from outerspace, one called 'sacred dub' that is currently putting me in a good mood for race today, all free,
record shops are good but this digi age is ACE! too I reckon. -

Record store day ruined my usual saturday afternoon in phonica - spent the day in The Endurance instead.

The queue at RT East was shocking. I got there at 7.15-7.30ish and there must have been 200 people in front of me.
I got the Franz Ferdinand Covers EP with LCD Soundsystem cover, it's shit. The Interpol Remixes, which are pretty good, the Clark/Bibio and Flying Lotus Warp bits which are decent. The Floating Points 10" is superb, and the Deerhoof/Xiu Xiu 7" is alright too.
It's annoying that the queues are so big, and the sheer amount of hipsters/profiteers that are there too.

Sister Ray was busy but in a good way. went and bought 9 slightly tatty records from the 3 for £5 racks, not really up for shelling out £8 for a special 7"...
nice to see so many "youth" in the shops though, clutching shiny collector vinyl.

Is anyone going to any of these stores today - Rough Trade, All ages, Eel Pie Records, World.of Echo, Stranger than Paradise?
I’m after a copy of the Crass Flexi disc (it’s free). None of the shops have it where I am (York).

I wonder how much the resellers are gonna put that up for...
Got a bit of a cold so didn't go out today, shame, was quite looking forward to seeing Robert Forster play in one of my fave Brissy record emporiums...
Re: the Big Star record in the OP, I was very excited to get it home but mega distraught when I found a skip in side two and I had no way of getting a replacement copy... Ooh well, dem's da breaks... Long time ago, I've recovered...

I’ve already started checking eBay. :(
I didn’t know it was limited to certain stores. If I had realised earlier I would of gone to Leeds (20mins away) this morning as that’s the nearest store to me that was getting it.

My mate in Bristol posted his copy up on FB, you must be able to get one, Shirley?
I really fucked up, forgot about RSD and didn't make it out this morning... I desperately wanted a copy of the Big Star 3rd Test Pressing box but everywhere seems to be sold out... Lemme know if you have a spare/can help out/know a record store near you that might still have one...
I'll make it worth your while... Cheers, Joe x
