  • Just heard my friend is in an induced coma after being knocked off on his way home to blackheath. It happened in Blackheath and details are quite sketchy at the moment.

He's smashed his pelvis and damaged some organs but he's been in a coma for a few days now.

Does anyone know of an incident in this area?

Annoyingly I'm in Scotland till wednesday so I'm feeling utterly useless at the moment.

  • F***k! Really sorry to hear this... I live in Lee nearby, my sympathies. Not the easiest place to cycle around with narrow roads... Has your friend been omitted to Lewisham Hospital?

  • He's in Kings, it happened off the a2?

Been in for surgery on his pelvis and femur, two punctured lungs, dialysis machine, CT scans, the works.

He smashed the car up pretty well.

Will know more when he comes around.

  • My thoughts and prayers are with him...

  • Sounds horrible. Hope your mate comes through this ok.

  • what awful news. hope your friend makes good recovery, thoughts with him.

  • Thoughts are with him & the family in this hard time

  • jesus. hoping for a speedy recovery.

peekay post some details when you get them.. date, time etc...

  • Sorry to hear this, I hope your friend gets better.

  • It's breaking me as I feel so useless. Looking forward to getting back to town so at least I can be of some practical help.

  • His injuries sound horrific. We can only hope that it's not as bad as it sounds--also that you manage to help him, peekay, or be there for him, once his medical needs are less acute. All the best!

  • Shit, i cycle near there every day, the A2 is fucking horrible over blackheath.

Hope your mate makes a full recovery.

  • Ditto, that A2 is a right f***ker! Let us know his condition... fingers crossed for positive news...

  • sorry to hear, hope all goes well for your mate

  • It happened on Wednesday night on his way back from from work.

He's on a ventilator and is putting up a huge fight. I hope to see him later this week, but am just praying for positive news in the meantime.

Ride safe everyone and spare him a thought as it might just help.

  • oy fingers crossed for your mate

  • thoughts & prayers for the recovery

  • f**k!!! hope he make a speedy recovery....

  • I visited my friend in hospital tonight. It was horrific to see someone in such a high dependency situation, but he is taking small steps towards stability. The staff at kings are doing a fantastic job and he couldn't be in better hands.

It felt good to see him and his family, but it really did highlight that he has a long journey ahead of him.

    Ride safe everyone.

  • good luck with his recovery

  • Yeh, best of luck to him.

I'm glad you felt the staff were doing well. It is a tough situation to be in as an onlooker or friend/ family member. Have strength and have faith that your friend will pull through. Thoughts and prayers offered.

  • Yep, he has a dedicated nurse in the ICU and a full medical team close by, they have been proactive and caring.

He's still sedated and on a ventilator, but they are hopeful of him undergoing more surgery soon, which will obviously mean more trauma, but is a good sign that they have confidence in his stability.

  • Thankfully he is NOT in Lewisham hospital. God Speed in his recovery.
