  • So, time trial rules prevent using headphones but what about this^
Reckon I could get away with it?
Do they do an aero version in carbon with Ti buttons?
Hmm.. mp3 player + speakers = national ban for performance enhancing tunes?

  • perhaps we should start a pirate cyclist radio station and all cyclists can wear little speakers to play it, it would fill london with music in rush hour and when peds hear their favourite song but the cyclist rides off they will feel sad about not being able to hear the song and will subconsciously connect no longer seeing a cyclist with a pang of distress and mentally they will start to yearn to see more cyclists.

this plan has absolutely zero drawbacks or flawed logic!

Great idea, the best way to change people's minds about something is to do it subconsciously. Plus we get our own banging pirate radio station. Win's all round.

  • Sennheiser PX100 headphones are great for cycling. Good sound quality, sturdy, and still let in some outside sound.

  • Right need some advice..

My headphone are the Grados, despite it's awkward cable, it's the best headphone I've ever used, the sound quality sound very much like real life, which make a huge difference for me being deaf with hearing aids as headphone within the price range sound very thinny lacking some warmt.

The missus have a Sennheiser HD 280 noise cancelling one, I like the noise cancelling but the sound quality is pretty shit in comparison to my Grados SR-80.

Can anyone recommended me a good noise cancelling headphone whose sound quality match the Grados?

  • Anyone?

  • Ed, recently I compared my bruv's Bose noise cancelling (not sure on the model, but they cost him 300 euros in an airport) against my sr80s in a quiet environment. surprisingly close, soundwise. i thought the grados would shit all over the bose.

also tried out the noise cancelling while on a plane, works beautifully.

  • I want a noise cancelling headphone for plane and riding the bike so I don't hear the background noise as well as other not hearing it (massive downside of the excellent Grados).

saw some really nice one at the airport, annoyingly enough they won't let me test it out, bit pointless buying a headphone without even hearing it.

This seems to be the case with a lot of headphone sellers because of this country's obsession with health and safety - they don't seem to want people spreading their ear-cooties around or something.

Problem is that it makes it very difficult to part with your money to buy some noise cancelling headphones without hearing them first!

I ended up buying the Sony MDR NC60 back when they first came out... not bad for sound quality, but won't be as good as your grados...

  • Noise cancelling is going to be better in higher-end IEMs as long as you use good tips and get a good seal. Have you considered any high-end IEMs eg Westone/Ultimate Ears.... skip Shure though.

  • Did they have helmets on?

  • Recently got myself a personal DAB for when i'm out mountain biking. Nothing like bombing around forests to the sound of Bonnie Tyler.

  • I have a Sennheiser PCX 450, great for noise cancelling which is very handy in traffic, abet it does get very warm.

  • I use my top lip to find the puncture, its one of the more sensitive parts of the body and can pick up the air escaping.

One of the more sensitive parts, not the most sensitive part. You're not a proper cyclist 'til you've found a puncture using your gentials

  • Bluetooth, that's all I have to add to this thread.

    Bye

  • which in ear headphones are people using?

my ultimate ears have pooed their pants after only 18 months or so.

    budget: <£100

  • I asked Corny this once and he sent me a list of about 10 different sets he liked.

    Email/text/pigeon message him

  • Sure SE215's gaffer

you're more than welcome to try mine - great for fit, no leakage and the frequency range is good

ohh and you can buy replacement cables for them if you accidentally break the cable [both earpieces plug in to their own cable socket]

    Check out the following brands:
    Etymotics
    Klipsch
    Denon
    B&W
    Monster (Turbines)
    Sennheiser

All of these do good headphones for under £100.

  • cheers peeps

  • on a supporting note, had some ultimate ears, and they went tits up very early in their lifespan, sent them back, got replacements they didn't last much longer, the shure's which I've had several pairs of run for a good long while, the only issue being cable breakage which they seem to have sorted by splitting the cables, into two seperate pieces so the longer one is the one you have to replace which is small beer in relation to replacing the headphones themselves.

sennheiser, bought a pair of in ears, wasn't impressed, they sucked balls robustness wise and went tits up in a couple of months.

intrigued by etymotics, but have never bought any..

  • My iPod died about five years ago but these are still going strong... I really like the sound on them too... Cheap as chips...

  • ^troll

  • It's bizarre that this has come up now as I was looking to buy a set this morning but sacked it off because I couldn't decide which to go for.
