Frame building BB question?

Posted on
  • Question, I know near nothing about frame building, so bare with me. I'm thinking about having my BB shell replaced or restored (long story, most of you already know) anyway, if I send it to a frame builder will they have to replace the shell and the lugging too or just the shell itself? I need to make sure that it ends up looking totally original, so I'm just wondering what the process is and would it be super expensive?

  • the lugging is usually built into the shell.
you could have it reamed and then they put another thinner shell inside, then that gets re-threaded, which will be a far cheaper and less messy option.

  • Talk to Ryan at polo, but yes like Murtle said the shell and the lugs around it are 1 cast piece.

  • I sort of figured it was one piece, Wasn't sure though. Will definitely talk to Ryan, what is Ryans Forum name?

  • ryanmcraig I think or his website is http://www.oakcycles.com/

  • The whole BB shell will be replaced unless it is an issue that can be fixed without you losing the orginal BB.

    S/F,
    CEYA!
