What a beautiful weekend.
I rode 33km of the black trails at Kirroughtree yesterday, it was nothing short of amazing. Gorgeous scenery, flowing and very technical single track and some slabby stuff. I rode it on my cross bike, much to the amusement of pretty much everyone on the trails. It was so much more fun that way, picking a smooth line isn't optional; it's about life preservation.
I did get a few pinch flats on the front tyre though, by about 3/4's of the way through I'd ran out of tubes and had to resort to a mixture of jogging and riding fire roads with all my weight over the rear wheel. Next time I'll run a 29x2.1 on the front (I was on 700x35).
One of those pinch flats did result in a spectacular fall on a fast descent, so I've got a few more scars but lots of prescription pain killers from one of the other guys. So all's good.
Pictures to follow...

No bike today, instead I went on my first ever run.
The trip was attempted to support my girlfriend, who was keen to extend her local loop, but apprehensive about doing so. "How tricky can it be?", I asked myself. The answer involved 13 miles, the realisation that cycling bits are not the same bits as running bits, and thighs that are now ready for amputation.
A big hooray for my girlfriend, who ran further than she'd ever ran before, and who didn't look at all phased by the experience.
Mission complete.

did the Rapha Hell of the North - ruddy good fun it was too.
first time out that way and took in some beautiful lanes and some surprisingly lumpy off-road sections, I'd been glad it wasn't wet but with the sun drying the muddy tyre ruts I had a few fraught moments trying to negotiate them. Some mental carbon wheels etc being slung round them too by the mamil contingent-I was happy to inflict it on my mercian but didn't see the need to take the chance with my good bike. Saw some Rollapalluza jerseys on route and a few brae souls riding SS as well as one fixed rider.
Beer and frites post ride whilst watching the last 100k of Paris Roubaix in the sun was pretty sweet too but have some pretty red arms to show for it.

Busy weekend, only managed 2 hours late this afternoon round my usual Kent loop. Wind in totally the opposite direction to last week hence it taking 3 1/2 minutes longer. Or it could have been the two bottles of red last night....

Started with the usual trip round town for an Ice cream with my two ladies, then they went off for a 7th birthday party.
Nancy has her first race on tuesday, very excited about getting a number for her bike.
While they were out partying I had my first run out since a slight MTB incident, the knee held up ok, but was a tad twitchy for the last two or three miles. Nice gentle roll in the sun (not a euph).
Great to be out on the black top again, treated myself to a G before home.

Did bugger all cycling but spent the weekend on a friends narrowboat, does that count as a 'ride'? Lovely sun, great fun, bit of a hangover and a not too terrible spot of sunburn. Absolut winrar.

Have a little 25mile pootle about gower today, went to Pwlldu and sat on the beach for a few hours, it was so hot I had to stop and buy sunblock.
So jealous! That place is beautiful! Whoever lives in those two houses by that amazing beach must be so lucky! The people who don't live there anymore must be so gutted!
/huge sigh and melancholy look
