City centre is tough mate.
There's a place opposite the Hippodrome called the Green Room. Reasonably priced, good for people watching. -

If you go to Condor Cycles on Gray's Inn Rd a few doors down on the same side heading north there's an ace place called Provencale or something french. You get a little hot buffet of chicken/beef casserole, curry, general hot food & 2 veg for around £5 and it's delicious. can't recommend enough.

Chop & Wok FTW, one by the Alex the other by Rackhams on same road as Slaters/Carphone Warehouse.
£6, for any box of noodles/meat/veg, prawn crackers and a can of drink. Cooked fresh - amazing for the money, way better than wagamamas

Me & Shredder have noticed Cafe Soya's slipped a lot recently, I used to eat there at least once or twice a month, would pass now.
Warehouse is great food but small portions, sorry Warehouse.
Chop & Wok isn't vegetarian friendly. They have tofu or veg options but unlike true Thai veg places (in Thailand) they cook meals in the same pan without segregating or cleaning between orders. I ate there and was ill pretty much straight after, sounds bogus but I've been veggie since '85 and if I eat stuff with a ton of meat juice in it it freaks out my stomach.I had a great brunch in a diner inside the Mailbox, can't remember the name but it's small, single storefront sort of breakfast place, they're way cheaper than everything else around there.

Not bogus re: meat juice if u been veggie since 85 mate, thats nearly as long as i've been alive. I dont eat eggs (they're wrong) but having been convinced to try one.for first time in 23 years recently i felt sick as a dog for about two days!

Eggs aren't wrong. They still contain a soul which is the best part of any meat dish.

Mmmm meat juice.
I eat way more than my fair share of eggs (about 20 a week), and feel great for it.

ask the birmingham polo crew.....
Meeting a couple of lahndan mates for lunch in town tommorrow, anyone have any suggestions that isn't the standard chainy-crap. A pub that serves decent food would be good, or a reasonably priced restaurant. Otherwise it's three 99p baguettes and a bench...
