Depending on the size of your frame, and thus steerer length will make a big difference. I found most steerers were too short, I eventually got one off Sumo. ebay constant searching is best and they come up on here every now and then.
Carbon steerers can apparently feel a little bendy under weight/pressure, I dunno but perhaps if you're big/sprinting an alloy tubed fork may be better, but that is most likely utter tosh!
