following on from this, has anyone ever bent the steerer tube back into correct position, or is that not recommended? Fairly slow head on prang, steerer is bent back slightly - I have been riding it since but want to get it checked properly, any advice appreciated - or recommendations in North/ Central London for a shop that might be able to repair ?
Thanks WG -

Fit the fork back to front.

And really - get a new pair and don't muck around if you don't have dental insurance.

Hi
As the title mentions I managed to bend my bike pretty bad today due to my jaguar seatpost snapping, my own fault for pushing it a bit far.
The forks are rather special as they were zero rake so I'd like to get them repaired... does anyone know if this is possible? The lugs seem intact, so hopefully is the steerer tube.
If they are not saveable, can anyone direct me to a place I can purchase new ones or get some made to replace?
Any help would be great, thanks
the damage...

The way should be...

bob jackson alley cat. £127 but you pick the colour, steerer length, threading and you can get it undrilled so i suppose it's not that bad if that's what you're after.

Do you have a photo of the whole bike set up pre crash? Looks rad.

I have a set of forks from an Archie Wilkinson speedway bike that are close to zero or negative rake. I don't know if they'll have enough steerer to clear your frame though. Let me know if you're interested and I'll get the tape measure out.
I'm not 100% sure a 700 wheel will fit, but am happy to try for you. Let me know...

Thanks for the bob jackson link... I think that'll be perfect.

don't want to worry you, nut after a crash like that the frame could also be seriously damaged.
check near the headtube lugs (underside) for any bubbles/kinks -

Thanks for the advice... I've already done this and all seems to be straight and true with the frame. I've just ordered a new fork from bob jackson so might get a new lick of paint on the frame while I wait for mr fork to arrive

Hey
basically my fixed bike was used at a party last weekend to grab some more beer but the rider didn't know it was fixed and ended up crashing it. FAIL. It seems like the forks are still in track but are maybe an inch and a half to two inches closer to the bike.I know I can bend steel but I want to know where I should be checking for cracks, and other than cracks what I should be looking for. If it makes any difference the frame-set is 531.

New forks, get some.

really? feck. I've ridden it 40miles since. The frame is a dawes from 1985 ish what size is the head tube likely to be? 1/8 ?
-
• #140
pics would help re what size steerer
given the cost of forks vs the cost of new teeth/facial reconstruction I would suggest you get replacement

I've given it a proper look this morning, the forks look fine, the frame doesn't.

the frame is the right way up in the photo, the room and the camera weren't.
I'm seriously considering just putting a track champion on a credit card.

Those rippled cracks in the paint on the lug don't look good. I take it they weren't there before the crash?
Run your finger along the top of the down tube. can you feel any rippling there?
You could also check with the straight edge of a steel ruler. -
• #143
no they where not, there is a slight bump on the underside of the top tube.

Yup, she be crashed.
Time to hang it up on the wall I'm afraid.
Galaxies come up pretty often, frameset likely #50-100 for a decent one :)

• #145
it wasn't a galaxy, it was an impulse, dam shame really as I had it resprayed about a month before. A mate has a orbit gold medal I got for him a while back he doesn't need so I'll get that I think.

• #146
Yep thats a write off. Get the fucktard who crashed it to buy you a new frame and forks
-

Dunno about the long term structural strength.
But how about getting the paint stripped and a nice big healthy bead of weld whapped on there.
-
• #148
just ride it, she will hold up fine.
-
• #149
the frame will crack where the lumps are ,the down tube will go 1st,adding any heat and trying to weld it will weaken it further.Throw it in the bin or get new tubes fitted

It will go and you dont want to be on it when it does
I heard that's how hetchins do it
