Didn't you watch the first animated series of Pokemon!? Ash let's his Charizard become too powerful in relation to his skill as a trainer, and as a result the Charizard becomes wilful and recalcitrant during battle, thus providing a source of humour for the audience and humiliation for Ash throughout the series. Eventually Ash proves himself a worthy trainer and he and Charizard become close friends, and Charizard an invaluable part of his important battling team.

Hah, I've never played pokemon or even watched it - not having a TV helps there. I've never been interested in it so dun't understand anything about it. Same with DragonballZ
