Crisis averted. Turns out I was looking at the wrong one on ebay(also bery nice) friend of the family has put this up on ebay, but will be taking it down tomorrow as it's now mine!

Fuck yeah. CB USWB ftw. It was rebuilt in the late 50's as more a roadster-wheels, excessive number of brakes etc but it's all business underneath. Might get a set of new wheels, have to work out brake drop etc as theres no way I'm gonna find 26/1 1/4 rims(597mm old english iso).
Same seattube as claud butler polobike, which is nice

Like any true gent one now has a choice of 3 tandems to take on the tweed run.

Tandems belong out on the lanes; setting insane pace on the flat and decending like a freight train, not in the tweed scrum. Hats off to those who've ridden them on previous tween runs..

I actually saw a couple on a tandem today, struggling up a hill..

Glad to say my feet are both feeling irie...but my bottom bracket done gone busted. Cant get across Wandsworth bridge on the Condor let alone to Cambs.

Might do some indigenous gardening a la Skulls.

Is it a higgins? Oh and rims still available is chrome and quite cheap..or H son will build you some but its pricey.

hilary has a wheelset with 4speed close ratio sturmey I may pick up for it. the uswb was supposedly an awesome multi-purpose tandem frame and there was a load of options when you bought one so you rarely see 2 fitted out the same. Like the idea of going all out period racer on it.
Re-enamelled in the 60's by the current owner at the cb factory, mafac canti and caliper rear brakes, caliper and drum front brakes. 4 is a tad excessive, like the arai drum on my pug so may change the setup a little. See what I've got to play with when I pick it up.

Though the higgins were the only curved tandems. They only made 10.

Wouldn't mind having a look as am working on a friends higgins that I need some ideas on.

one on classic lightweights, few on the ctc forum all in various builds. Looks like it'll clear 700c wheels no probs with the mudguards off. Mine has canti mounts brazed on the rear so these won't line up correctly. Shame the canti mounts weren't brazed on the inside of chainstay out the way so I could run a caliper as normal.
This is why I'll probably try and source a good set of alloy 26 1 1/4 and probably ditch the front drum hub in favour of an airlite or a maybe a pair of bacon slicers if I can find them.

Oh and in 'The golden age of handmade bicycles' book there's a couple of french built curved tandems as well.
