Jenne I'm suprised she likes it to be honest, as she seems more interested in an upright riding position than using drops.
If there is a suggestion it takes hub gears, then I would guess that the drop outs are not 120mm, but 132 or 135 - like my crosscheck, AFAIK all the alfine hubs are this size (which is what they usually put on OTP's) -

Beige is quite a suitable colour for a trek.
That looks like a fairly nice bike, nothing really stands out as being bad, but nothing stands out as being exceptional either really.
It's a mid range OTP, after all.
If it can fit an Alfine then I will revise my opinion- that would be cool.
Although the rear OLN will be slightly annoying in terms of hub choice for "normal" wheels.
Why does she want the trek? If she loves it and thinks she will care for it, then let her go for it. It may not technically the perfect bike, but to doesn't have to be perfect, to be perfect for her.
Guide her hand by all means, but the final choice has to be hers, otherwise you'll be the one getting an earful every time she has a problem.
