    I'll give you CJD, F&M and Scrapie.

    I think the point is that the meat that goes into pet food is even worse than that, hence why it is cheaper. Meat (if you can call what comes out of the rendering factories that) which can be sold to humans will fetch a higher price than that which is destined for livestock or pets. I don't believe that you can recycle dead pets into burgers, legally, whereas, apparently, this is legal in the pet-food industry.
