You can take the canals all the way from Vic Park to Kings Cross, they're generally safe some, fastest route by far.
Going through east will be fine,, and done.
If anything does happen, its probably fate.

By the time I through to other end there would literally be 1000's of cyclists, runners, push chairs etc in the canal! This thing is mahoosive!
