It's all true.
Funnily enough, I started writing stuff for the chap, and I've been printed in one of their books - The Best of The Chap. I used to be Brigadier Gordon Volanté, but then I died and God downgraded me to Lucifer.

There's posh tweed and proletarian tweed. Think Rapha (for MAMILS) and yer Dad's old tweed jacket

I'm liking the look of those Swrve shorts. May have to order a pair.

I reckon you're just jealous because a horse doing a skid looks more rad than any wussy little bicycle ever could.
Also, easier to avoid denting HGVs, a la Scobles!

I finally got the shorts from Swrve.
I ended up going for the Sprint Wide Leg in the largest on account that they allegedly accomodate larger thighs. Glad that I did as I'm not sure mine would fit comfortably in anything smaller. They're a good quality short and look good but it's a bit of a shame that Swrve don't offer more in a larger size as standard. I guess you're not supposed to be stylish if you're not a malnourished lazy hipster.

From another thread:
I went to Herne Bay with a Swedish Baroness of my acquaintance (not strictly relevant to the story but it makes me sound hella cool so I'm going with it) and we discovered a gentleman's outfitters with a crazy amount of tweed - hats, sports jackets, proper trousers, v-neck jumpers, thick cotton shirts, total traditional awesomeness, and it was all about a fifth of the price I've seen similar things in London.
The guy was hella cool as well, I picked up this beautiful Harris Tweed hat for about £20, and he told me all about the factory that made the things and how they're going out of business etc. Really amazing stuff.
Anyway if you need tweed and London is sold out I definitely recomend the guy. It's Vic Kimpton Menswear, 158 Mortimer St, Herne Bay, Kent CT6 5DU - number is 01227 375640.
Kickass

I want to bring the style of tweed to the provinces (Nottingham), but what the deal with it; can I get a good tweed jacket that I can machine wash and not have to send it to the dry cleaners? I don't want any clothing that I have to dry clean! Can you guys reccommend a tweed jacket that's suitible for cycling in.
Thanks dudes.

I want a tweed jacket for riding my fixed bike in aswell as wearing off the bike, but I'm not willing to wear something that's dry clean only for cycling in, it'll get sweaty and will need to be washed way too often, so having to get it dry cleaned will be just too inconvenient. The ones I've seen that are machine washable are a bit like wax jackets (crappy looking) and even the Rapha one that I've seen is dry clean only. Can anyone reccommend something suitable please.

If its not dry clean only then it won't be tweed will it ? well not real tweed anyway
-
• #41
i assume it works a bit like any good quality wool clothing, it doesn't stink as cotton does and you can air it instead of washing it
-
• #42
Good tweed stinks of piss anyway, so it will mask the smell of sweat broken by bacteria...

By the way, wear technical base layers underneath (treated with silver etc.) and you should be ok with wool. Much better than soaked stinky cotton which will make you feel cold after that stop for a pint on your way back.

Hornets on Kensington Church St (w8) has a supply of jackets £50ish. And lots of hats at £25. This might be a little too much for a one-off ride but I'm sure some may want to reuse...
They have a rather awesome red hunting jacket and 'skirt', but let's just say the price was out of my league.
on the curve opposite 'ffionas' restaurant.

In preparation for the esteemed Tweed Run, I am trying to locate a pair of long socks to complement the splendid Harris Tweed plus fours that I now am proud to call my own. Can anyone point me toward a supplier who can accomodate with a pair of Argyle/Pringle patterned knee length socks. I have scoured golf shops and a number of "Scottish" outlets but to no avail. Sadly I cannot afford the fine offerings from Rapha.

Long argyle socks are on eBay - or get some flouro ones from the stall opposite the bagel bake on brick lane on Sundays.

i've never done the tweed run but wear tweed on a regular basis. it's really not hard to find decent second hand jackets.
rockit in cov garden, camden and brick lane,
radio days and what the butler wore on lower marsh,
and the CND shop on holloway road, all have tons of tweed for around £30 a jacket. i have a couple and wear them all though spring and autumn.

I have rifled through many racks of late but just can't find one with a storm collar.
They've never been seen in the same thread at the same time. They're like the fixed gear equivalent of Micheal and LaToya Jackson in that sense....
