The front wheel on one of my bikes is partially stuck. I want to remove it, but can’t. Despite removing the nuts, the wheel will not release. This must be down to how stripped and misshapen the axle has become, I would guess through over-tightening. I literally now have a case of a square peg in a round hole; both sides of the squared-off axle were stuck in their respective dropouts, but I’ve managed to free one of them.
The other remains stuck fast and has resisted all efforts to free it. Clearly I’m going to need a new axle, but is there a way to free the stuck side of the axle out of its dropout which for the moment it is firmly wedged in, other than Murtle’s hammer technique, as I don’t want to cause damage to either the wheel, which I want to use on my new build, or the forks, as I want to sell the frame on here?
