In the context of a thread concerning a fatality I find the Jamie 2820 post offensive. The first sentence is such a throwaway as to be worthless. General road safety is an issue worth debating but not in this way on a thread like this. People have lost someone they love, remember that before jumping to self justification.

This sort of comment has happened a few times in 'Rider Down' threads. In one case, the poster turned out to be the partner of a lorry driver who was subsequently convicted of causing death by dangerous driving, jailed for seven years, and banned from driving for life:

I don't want to cast aspersions on Jamie by mentioning that, but on the contrary point out that his post isn't anywhere near the same league. A lot of people hold the views he has expressed, and they're usually very well-meaning. We all know that many road users, not only cyclists, need more training.
However, there is no relation of these general points to the case at hand, as we know very little about the crash, and we should avoid the temptation to speculate and to assign blame to either party.
Quite generally, 'Rider Down' threads are not the place to discuss such things, as there are plenty of others, including a whole forum devoted to cycle training.
Sharkstar's question also still stands. I'd suspect that Jamie might have been reading the forum for a while and only registered to make his post as he knows this bit of street.
Our thoughts are with those who knew and loved the victim.

saw the aftermath of this, it was fucking horrendous! I'm still pretty shaken up about it and don't consider myself easily shocked. There was an article in todays evening standard and no somehow knowing who the guy has made it harder to deal with.
RIP

Roymund, so sorry that you were a witness to the aftermath. Make sure you get emotional support if you need it. RoadPeace run a victim support scheme and might be able to tell you where to turn (and are generally awesome and very worth supporting).

it's scant consolation but the tragedy which befell david has changed the way I approach that dangerous junction entirely. it's always been a worry of mine there after nearly being hit by an aggressively driven minivan on my first ever commute to work on my own in that exact same spot but now I hope both riders and drivers alike will be much more cautious when negotiating that junction and those before it.

+1 Hatbeard. I've always had a problem with that junction too and now tend to take primary when going through it, with a quick thought about David and his family.
^ well spotted sharkstar.
that jamie2820 post is a very rude post really.
i thought there was something wrong about it when i first read it.
