advice wise for parts, if it looks similar it is and the higher price one is only more expensive because it has a trendy logo on.
second bit of advice is look on the classifieds here and dont have anything in mind. if you are waiting for something to come up it wont so keep your mind open

PQR> IUTFSBCFATHM (I used the fucking search, but couldn't find anything that helped me) - but I got your point ;-) I was just a bit desperate for advice on brands, since Sheldon Brown is amazing, but I prefer to hear people personal opinions in here, also on brands. Some are completely overpriced compared to value etc. Sugino is amazing, but damn expensive, maybe you had a alternative for a 165 44T crank set and fitting BB?
But thanks all for feedback and help!

Welcome. I bought a few cheaper bits in the early days from velosolo - including a Lasco crankset, which looked like the Sugino but was about £35. Trouble is it looks like they are out of stock in the size you want.
For the handlebar, take a look at Velo Orange - they're not wildly expensive and have the gentlemanly look for sure. They're US-based, but Tokyo Fixed stocks them or you can get them cheaper from 'Practical Cycles' on eBay.
Oh, and best advice I ever got was don't spend too much on your first build. I still did. And have always wished since I hadn't...
Good luck.

downlo> Thanks for the Nitto bars - they are really cool!!
rat-racer> That's a really nice site and really good advice. I think I become too eager on getting Sugino £100, when I can "start" and learn with something in the £40 range!!Thanks all for help!

Search for 'HilaryStone' in the search bar under members. Check his sale threads, likelyhood is that he will have everything you need. Dont expect personal shopper customer service. Pick what you want and pay promptly and you will get a fair price for good used bits.
Get 2nd hand parts. £20 double crankset & chainring will do absolutely fine for your needs.
Hi all,
Please have patience with me, and give me your best advices for my upcoming bike ;-) I have a Reynolds 531 SL frame that I want to build up to a single speed (no fixie), but have limited knowledge about specific components, so if anyone could help with some solid advices I would be more than grateful! Maybe even if you have something for sale?!
I have saddle and am pretty sure that I want Shimano 105 brakes, but for cranks, bb, wheelsets, seatpost, stem and handlebar I am pretty blank. For the handlebar I am looking for something a vintage gentlemanbar-ish thing! All in silver! For tyres I would love to have Gatorskins!
Sorry for all the questions, but am simply not sure what to get, and what would be over/underkill!
Thanks all!
Kris
