well, just get a polished alu dual pivot brake will do.

the piece of metal loop on the back of the brake is the earliest form of a 'puncture protection'.

basically it brush off anything that might get embedded on the tyres and cause a puncture.

Modern pads will help a lot, and those guide are for killing squirrels.

Thanks again, much appreciated. I did wonder about the small triangular things and the metal loop at the back of the brake, but didn't want to ask in fear of getting flamed :)
