Clas ohlson sell 1" wide griptape on a roll for making boats decks nonslip... It's black but might look neater than cutting strips of griptape yourself...?

I was going to clad the tread leaving off 1" at the rear/side edge. Just 1" strip on the edge might work just as well. He's already semi-fallen down his normal stairs already and his attic ones are a super steep spiral so I doubt it'll be long before he goes.
