  • I think that's one of the main theories but I don't think anyone knows for sure. I read something by a vet which basically said cats should be able to clear their digestive system without any assistance. How we have bred them/ the diet we feed them makes it necessary for them to have a supplement. Other theories are that they get folic acid out of cat grass, that it can soothe the stomach and inflammation. The only thing that seemed conclusive is that cats (both wild and domestic) eat grass.

    If we have cat grass James (the cat) will eat it and with no ill consequences. He also used to nibble on the lemon grass plant until I over watered it and it died, very little interest in the catnip plant though. Higgs nibbles the coffee plant and my olive tree (very young, still indoors) has been investivated by a cat. I really should plant some cat grass.
