Yep, we had a target of £8k planned (mainly court with floor hire costs as we weren't allow to play on the Velodrome surface itself), the £5k didn't come into it, but was a "no need to pay" hire fee (BC were effectively paying it, but not in "real" money). Potentially the whole tournament could've cost less (suitable barriers could have been available at the Velodrome for free, etc), the scouting party would have discovered that, alas the event fell over just as it was getting into it's stride.
Some of the best bike polo tournaments I've attended had a budget of a couple hundred pounds, money isn't the important factor at all. The really exciting thing about the Polodrome event was the potential to impress BC and Sport England with it, this can wait till next year mind and no, this year's UK Champs doesn't need to be an all singing, all dancing event... I guess I was hinting that just having the event in the car park outside would probably be more effort than it's worth (for less gain)?
I will avoid your use of 'acceptable' Neil, there are no (imagined or otherwise) borders between London polo and the rest of the UK, all for one and one for all and all that.
