I thought the same.
As adoubletap said, cranks should'nt fail like that. But despite the poor rep alu gets. A solid bar like those cranks wont fail unless a theres a initial fault, or crack. Somthing to focus the pedaling force.
Either way, its a shite thing to happen. Heel up.
