Cateye light bracket placement

  • Afternoon All,

Couldn't think of a better place to post this so here it is. I asked at South Easts last night but nobody seemed to have the same problem.

Does anybody here have a problem with your thigh (left or right depending on bracket orientation) making contact with your cateye light bracket on seat post? No matter where I place the bracket on the seatpost, the adjustment knob gets in the way of my thigh when I'm at the bottom of my pedal stroke.

At best this is an annoyance, at worst this can rotate the light around 90 degrees on the seat post affecting rear visibility. On longer rides this can cause abrasions too.

I've played around with saddle position as much as I can possibly do without affecting bike fit too much.

Shall I just give up and buy a rear light with a lower profile bracket or has somebody else experienced this problem and found an ingenious solution? Just to make it clear, the light is in the vertical position...its just the bracket causing the problem.

  • yep, i had the same problem, only when i sat really far back in the saddle.
try mounting it to the rear stays or use a clip and stick it on you bag/trousers/jumper.

  • what model of light?

  • Loose weight, tubby!

  • :-)

  • you need to get one of the mounting jobbies in the attached image (ignore the light) rather than using the adjustable sort. it's the old mounting system and is much better imo. they sell them in most bike shops for a couple of quid.

  • ^that or on the seat tube close to the stays

    O Andy.

  • Unless it was a comment on the distribution of the mass, and you were saying it needed to be tightened down.

  • what model of light?

    TL-LD610

And give up my Big Mac habit? Are you on pills? :)

You may have just solved this for me...sure I've got one of the old mounts in my spare parts box! Will give it a go... Might have to buy another one for my racer though as I swap lights between bikes.

    Cheers all!

  • go to evans (a big one like waterloo) they will give you one more than likely

  • turn it 90 degrees?

  • Snip the offending bit off (the bracket, not your lard)?

  • Snip it

  • Had that problem with an LD-610, mounting it vertically meant it was pointing down, horizontally it caught my legs - really annoying. Preferred it that way cos I could do the night-rider thing. Some kind soul however solved the problem for me, by nicking it. Replaced it with a Blackburn.

You can't with the new style brackets.

You can't do this either, its the adjustment dial that is the problem. Could wrap my legs tightly in gaffer tape though...

It would be cool to fit it sideways but as you say, thats even worse than having the bracket catching your leg. I'll just get some old style brackets I think.

  • Get one of the clips that mean you can put the light on your bag- no more problem

  • Now, my light isn't going to be visible if its dangling between my legs is it?

    Also, sounds painful.
