  • Chocklat... Well said. As a member of an earlier wave of mostly middle class mostly home counties mostly meedia kids... I know how stupid we looked in Oxton back in '95-2000, same happening in Dalston for the last five years. Thing is, like Wingedangel said, you're making assumptions ... Not all the hip people you see round your manor will be idiots. Just about half, probably.

Remember what Portobello was like in the mid 80s? I do. Then it went 'posh'. Thing is, what makes it still special, still portobello, is that^ despite the twats, the 'rise of the idiots', it's still got what it had; history... Pnce stately victoriana, massive houses all split into flats and shabby by the end of WW2, slum landlords filling streets populated by old London working class, Irish, Portuguese, & Carribbean influxes, and then the hipsters started arriving in the 70s I guess.

Still, it's got identity, in spite of the David Cameron set - in spite of the twats.

What I am saying is: embrace the change, and fight the twats... at the same time.
