  • I rode from Mile End to Manor House and back again, riding fixed for the first time ever! It was quite a milestone. Totally loving it, even going down hills. Definitely need to work on my skids before taking the breaks off though...

  • yes. but...
..why were people walking around in t-shirts and shorts? it wasn't that warm.

I thought that was a Brit thing? As soon as the sun is out and the temp is in double figures people are sitting in the park in their y-fronts. Maybe they were Icelandic tourists.

  • 5.5hours with Quest. In spite of one bloke's double pinch flat we made it out to Chobham in time to watch the end of the Hounslow? race. Saw poor illy deep in the pain cave and I think Nick (also Grupetto) come in 3rd? Good day's cycling.

  • I combined a bit of geekery with a good ride yesterday... I'm preparing a course to teach iPhone App Dev and needed some geocoded "tourist" photos from around London so decided to get out into the sun and take my own!

Fantastic weather, millions of t-shirted Brits and tourists with coats and not too much traffic on the roads. Lovely (although I do wonder how many of those t-shirted Brits have colds today ;-) ).

Left home (a bit north of Kings Cross) at 13:30, headed off down past Euston, Aldwych, Fleet Street to Tower Bridge, over the bridge and down to City Hall where I took the compulsory "whip in the sun" photo, back over the bridge and along to the Embankment, Big Ben, Parliament, St. James Park, Buck House, The Mall (awful road surface even though it has no potholes), Trafalgar Square, Strand, Aldwych, Russell Square, Bedford Square, Euston and back home for a nice cold Efes in the sun :-)

I got the photos I needed to prepare my course, caught some sun and had a fun tour around - underlining for me the whole point of cycling in London: It's the easiest and quickest way to get around and to see the whole city and even better when the sun shines.

Next time I'll try to keep track of the distance...

  • 96 miles on club run out to Thame. Longest ride ever for me. Tight calves at end, but did not feel too bad. Yey!

  • You didn't push on for the extra 4mi?!

  • e4 ecstasy on my own. Saw sean and someone else on my way back and Tash when i was leaving

  • Track yesterday then hurt some people feelings in Richmond Park this morning. Appearances can be deceptive.

  • Last night me and my mates (about 10 of us) did ~40 mile ride through the woods. At 10PM. Was intense, mainly due to the fact that it was only me with a light worthy to see the path, and we were all on skinny tyres.

    Twas joyous.

  • Lots of track yesterday then up to Regents Park for some gentle lapping this evening. Ended up 2-up TT-ing it round at 25mph for an hour, not quite what I'd had in mind, but fun nonetheless. I swear they've changed the phasing on the lights, only managed one 'clean' lap, and that was at the end. Too many circles this weekend though, maybe some countryside miles tomorrow.

  • are you dizzy now, Tom?

  • You didn't push on for the extra 4mi?!

Could have, but I'm saving that special moment for a 111-mile sportive in April.

Once home, I stuffed myself with the recovery food of champions: tea and chocolate and peanut butter cake.

  • No riding this w/e.

    Still time!!

Touching. Cycling round the block 5 times at the end of a training ride to notch up your first century is the cycling equivalent of losing your virginity by way of a sordid short lived knee-trembler somewhere in a dark alley surrounding Kings-X. A century should be done properly; nice dinner, fine wine, candles, rose petals on the bed, you get the picture. Save yourself for the right ride. Other cyclists will respect you more for it.

  • I've been doing DIY, and now to assemble my new (to me) bike.

The first time is always shit, get it over and done with then enjoy all those that follow all the more.

  • Says the man who didn't even ride this weekend!

  • Still resting… but the genes must ride:

  • Hipster.

  • I didn't go half as far this weekend as most people on this thread, or anywhere particularly exciting but it was a joy to just pootle round town with a friend in the spring sun.

  • @BMMF like the way hes covering the brake there, quality training no doubt :-), Ill never get tired of teaching kids to ride bikes, ever.

Hippy and all, the Brits wear t-shirts only so its easier to get a quick tattoo whilst on your walk round the shops.

I did an 8.9 foot orienteering race today and enjoyed it, first chiff chaffs were out in forest blah blah blah leave you to it riders.

Our club run was to Richmond Park this morning, we did a lap of the park just after midday

Spotted one Rollapaluza rider, didn't spot you Steve

  • ^ I was out at 8.30 and home by 11.30, weekdays I'm up at 5.45 so that's still a lie-in.
