Not perfect but they work ok for me.

  • This thread makes me sad.

Why not just buy a fixed frame that does have bottle mounts - like an IRO Mark V?

    Or a Bob Jackson.
Why would you change your frame choice just so you could have a drink?

  • Don't get saddle mounts.

  • As is the Condor version of the Decathalon strap on thing. Costs £7 or something, once you've taken it off you can't refit it. Annoying.

Or why the need for a bottle at all if you're just pootling around London roads ?
If you're going for longer rides where you might need a bottle or too, an alloy track geometry frame ain't going to be that comfy

    Bollocks.

    Also, bottle or two.

Where the fuck do you attach that? Your SPDs???

  • Bollocks.

    Thanks Dad

  • Pleasure. Now are you going to explain why an alloy track geo frame will not be comfy for long road rides?

  • Handlebar mounted bottle for the retro win.

Personal experience really. I feel more battered riding over to the track, despite having super supple tubs on. I'd imagine it's down to the large stiff alloy tubes and chunky bottom bracket.
Also a shorter top tube and bigger head tube on track frames (as with mine) means I have a longer stem and bigger drops than normal, making the riding position more upright when not in the drops. I also don't get on with high bottom brackets on the road, leading to comedy leaning moments when unclipping.

  • I'll admit that they weren't designed for it but I have mine very well set up for on road (no tracks near me), and find it is as comfy as my road bike.

  • I have no problems and I've done big(ish) rides of 85+ miles on mine - some of them off road, on tow paths etc. That did shake my headset loose though...

  • i use duct tape

  • Anybody know where I can get one of these (I utterly hate all the other solutions and this actually looks elegant). French apparently... If anyone has one they'd like to sell I'd be very interested.

Wouldn't a pair of jubilee clips do the job?

  • Not as well I don't think, it's a matte of what you pass them through and how you make the cage stable. I'll try to fashion something but I'm amazed that you can't just pick something like this up, it seems so common a problem.

  • ^^Scoble, I've seen you post some Heath Robinson stuff in my time, but isn't that just one speed bump away from a bottle in the bollocks?

(besides I have quill stems on by bikes so I'm screwed even if that does work).

  • I am sure I saw something like that in Wilkinsons when I was picking up a cheap puncture repair kit to get me home.

They do not appear to list it online. To be honest I could not think what the metal bands were for!!

  • Just took delivery of a couple of these Andy. Thing is, they need to be routed through a part of the cage mount I guess. I'm probably using the wrong type of cage, but I can't really see how I'd make them work. (dumbass that I am).
