Cottaging in the UK

As the impending royal shame wedding gets closer myself and few friends are looking to escape from the city to a countryside cottage / house.

Does anyone know of any good companies / websites / areas that are good for this. Or does anyone know of any websites for renting unique design / quirky properties.

We want to rent a place for 6 - 8 people, for 3 or four nights, self contained with no contact unnecessary contact to the outside world, so isolated is good. Think Monty's cottage in withnail and i.... but closer to London.

You could house sit? In london you literally have to que to get a look in, but out of london its anyones!
You get all sorts, but generally decent large properties to look after, and free :p
