There does seem to be a way of measuring the relative size of your books. When you're in the menu looking at what you've got, underneath each book is a bar of a different length which also shows how far into it you are.

This is what I've always assumed it meant, anyway.

But yeah, I get what you mean. In the end, though, it's worth it.
