Just to let anyone know, I've received my 40mm Weinmann Pegasus rims on Novatec hubs and I'm VERY disappointed.
What a joke! Varno is the king of false advertising!!
Rims are 40mm unbranded, the hubs are also unbranded and look nothing like proper Novatec ones. Spent £120 in a wheelset worth about £80. I'll post photos up later on, but in the meantime
BEWARE OF VARNO - DO NOT BUY FROM HIM
Novatecs are OEM hubs shared by many brands and look like this:
They are entry level but are decent and light. Unbranded ones would be exactly the same I imagine.

Vince you need to get a grip mate the novatecs are used by loads of people they are entry level hubs what do you expect and what an earth do you think uno's are, they are entry level hubs
-
• #579
Seriously. Novatec make hubs for loads of companies. Companies that demand unmarked hubs, for better marketing of complete wheelssts. What you have is likely OEM novatec hubs, and destickerd rims.
I cant see how the Conder wheels would be any better. As the components seem also to be of entry level, yet exceptable, quality.
Sorry, this is none of my business. But you seem to be annoyed purely becuase your wheels dont have writing on them.

My novatec's have Ambrossio written on them. So have that added italian flare.

Also the novatec hubs are built into a lot of brand name wheelsets!
While the threads may need some attention the bearings are very nice and the hardware is also fine. -

I take it you are either:
friends with Varno, or
you also sell unbranded hubs as 'Novatec' hubs?I could have bought a cheap DP18 on Quandos from ebay for £80, now i'm £120 out of pocket for a wheelset which is as bad. Not really worth the £40 extra I have paid.
I got a grip and learnt my lesson, i just don't want other LFGSS users to get done like I just did.
I also don't want unscrupulous sellers to make a mint selling ersatz and give a good old fiver a year to the forum.
The only way to sort this would be for Varno to give at least £20 to the LFGSS forum from the unbranded gear he just sold me.

fuck off vince, you are talking out of your arse and it has been proven time and again. keep digging tho - it's mildly amusing.
/satisfied customer.

Of course I took that up with Varno first - I can return the wheels at my expense and get a full refund.
Still not happy as I'll have wasted time and a tenner on postage.
Condor does a £140 Uno wheelset with Uno XL hubs which is pretty sweet. I wanted to save a bit of cash and bought from Varno - i've been stung so i've learnt my lesson: buy from a reputable seller, not a cowboy from the forum who claims unbranded gear is as good as branded gear so he can make a tidy profit on all of us.
Once again, know what you get yourself into: BEWARE OF VARNO - DO NOT BUY FROM HIM
Fair enough, you are obviously entitled to your opinion. However, you can't really complain about having to pay postage. A lot of online companies will may you pay postage if you want to return things.
So what exactly are you complaining about?
Also, I think trying to argue branded stuff is inherently better is a bit weak. Especially when citing Condor as an eg - bar the frames, all of their stuff is literally re-branded (ie their sticker on the same product).
As for calling him a cowboy...? 12 pages and counting says otherwise.

Varno's wheels are great, Vince you're stupid.
-
• #586
Vince, you need to calm down. I used novatec hubs, on one hubs, they are all the same. Quando's aren't sealed, your choice really.
Never met Varno in my life, actually never heard of him before, proof on this page! -
• #587
you also sell unbranded hubs as 'Novatec' hubs?
FFS.
All Novatec.

....Just on this. I have no connection with the guy. But I have always been supportive of his wheels.
When I was trying to buy my first set of fixed wheels a few years ago, there was hardly any choice and getting a new set of wheels for ~£100 (regardless of quality) was impossible.
The only downside I can see to Varno, is that he's fucked the 2nd hand wheel market for everything other than topend wheelsets.

err no these are formula... cross section is different, drilling is different.

Different factories?
I thought it was just two different shell designs, with the same internals.

They're all black anyways.

hehe... :O
axles are axles, nuts are nuts, bearings are bearings, what's left... -

i'll have to echo everbody elses sentiments here (except Vince). There's 13 pages of satisfied customers here. One guy does a deal for a pair of wheels which were being discounted (and i guess by the fact he pm'd Varno he got them even cheaper) and then slags the guy off for doing a him a deal.
I've bought a couple of sets of Varno and can honestly say he keeps you informed of whats going on with delivery etc and above all offers VALUE FOR MONEY, which is all any of us are really after.
Vince if you don't like 'em sell 'em.
You'll probably get more that you paid for them!

If I was told it was all unbranded stuff, I would not have considered the wheelset at this price, that's all i'm saying.
It looks like it is ok to sell unbranded stuff on here and just say 'it's comes from the some factory, don't worry' - I don't work in these factories, I have no way of verifying that statement apart from the 'good faith' of the seller.
The selling description should say ' all unbranded' as it is misguiding otherwise.
Am I being irrational?

I see your point, and if someone sold me some Chris King hubs without a CK logo. I'd be a bit pissed.
The fact is that the Chris King brand carrys a lot of worth with it. So all CK hubs have logos. Whereas the Novatec brand just signifies entry level, decent enougth quality, and as such dosent really have any value. It would'nt surprise me if most of the Novatec hubs produced were left without a logo, for aftermarket sale. Its not a fake. That would be like forging George of Asda jeans.

has this been re-laced yet?
Varno has'nt spoke up yet. That will have a lot of* bearing* on things, and could nipple it in the bud.
I think you should have took this up with varno before posting public if you want big fucking stickers saying weimann thats upto you i also used to sell these and everybody wanted the stickers off,and why so worried the hubs are not branded they are all after all not dura ace or miche
