  • I can't!
    removal in course.

  • Ah, shame Ludo! Next week for sure!

So at this stage, no one wants the loaner so I won't bring it unless anyone tells me different. Will bring spare mallets though.

  • My bike is a bit dodgy but I'd like to come. I'm a quite beginner and have no mallet.

Yeah the clavicle error season was last year. If it's broken, he took it well!

    Awesome ^.

I might be selling my bike soon actually.

  • Hey everyone, just got home and had some tea and biscuits.

Nothing broken but shoulder was dislocated, it looked well weird once I'd taken my shirts off, like.. my bones weren't where they were meant to be. Anyway, thanks to the magical power of laughing gas and having virtually no pectoral muscles (so the registrar complemented me), a doctor, three nurses, some bed sheets and the power of gravity and now my humerus is back in its rightful place. Gave me a sling and some more x-rays to make sure things are in place and then I rode home: ah polo, encouraging me to ride one handed and with the brakes on the left hand side...
X-rays show things are fine, but I have an odd sling and have to go see some other people, though thankfully in familiar stomping grounds of west London.
Girlfriend less than impressed that she cycled from Kingston to see me chirpily enter with bike in tow and explained that I'm getting progressively worse (fell off with grazes last week :().

Anyway, I'm blaming the pedal cages, I hate those things so either new retention or new pedals soon.

Thanks for the concern and citygent making sure nothing was broken at the time.

    See you soon no doubt.

  • Wow. MASSIVE respect for making a dislocated shoulder look like you'd just knocked it. You took it really well.
Good job you did go to hospital then and I'm pleased nothing is broken.
And have some rep for your getting back on the bike attitude.
Pleased it hasn't put you off, get some toe straps and heal up soon dude.

  • Because I'm taking my follow-up Westwards I was given a DVD of my x-rays:
    Before relocation:

    After:

Same view, I've always thought the NHS should have a gift shop for this kind of thing...

  • And have some rep for your getting back on the bike attitude

The healing power of beer and pringles! Glad you're ok Ruben.

  • Ouch and get well soon...

  • damn ruben. glad it wasn't any worse.

  • How long do you have to rest it for, or is it fine?

Popping that back in must have been painful. I doubt I will complain at all about my hip injury today ;)

Side note: Are the NHS are giving us our X-rays now? The only X-rays I have are from hurting myself abroad. Whenever I ask here they come up with an excuse not to give me a copy.

  • They wont give you a copy (unless another doc requests it) because it costs money to print them on the x-ray paper, or burn it to a DVDr.

But if you ask to see them, you can take a pic of them on the PC screen with your phone, which is what I do. No problem there.

  • Expert ^

  • Thank science for anaesthetics! That's what I say, felt like Thor was cracking his knuckles in my shoulder but didn't really feel any pain until 30 seconds later when it felt much better than before the reduction.

I was given the nice DVD because I asked to have my follow up in West (no offence South Easties, but its 2 buses compared to walking distance) so I was given my notes (illegible) and the x-rays on DVD and had to present to another A&E to get an clinic appointment for Monday. So presumably they'll tell me how long to keep it rested, till then I'll be mainly wearing a sling unless I it feels better.

  • The protection of information act 1982 (iirc, might be freedom, always get the two mixed up) means they have to give you the x-rays if you ask, you usually have to go to the pharmacy and pay an admin fee (£5 the few times I've done it) and then head back to x-ray with a little ticket.

The actual doctors may not know this as they don't really have to deal with it, but admin or radiologist should be able to point you in the right direction.

  • ahh! get well soon ruben!!

  • How long do you have to rest it for, or is it fine?

Apparently at least another 2 weeks in the sling, probably a bit longer of rest. Annoyingly, almost certain to happen again now: I blame our evolutionary ancestors for not dislocating their shoulders more often.
