Live/Work spaces

Yo Peeps!

Although I don't have a job, my girlfriend and myself are planning to move before summer. We rent a tiny flat in Moseley at the moment and some studio space in Digbeth, and would like to combine the two in a new location.

We're meant to be moving into a Live/Work place called the Spectacle works in the jewellery quarter but its taking an age, it was being converted into units from a on old glasses factory and although it was meant to be completed last September, we still haven't received a contract to sign and have been told that the rent will go up next month anyway.
So, does anyone else have or know of any affordable rentable live/work spaces in the city? I've seen stuff to buy thats aimed at artists and craftspeople, and also shops with flats above, both of which would be good, but nothing to rent.

Any ideas?

Hey Neil, a friend of mine had the same issue...this is the place with the jewellery workshops that are included in your rent right? She's given up now but I hope you and Claire hear something soon! I was looking for a similar space but they're all so expensive! Thinking I might just have to deal with mastershredder again...

Yeah, there's 13 flats with workshops/studios and apparently only two people are interested so far, us and a lady that makes jewellery. Midland Heart have just announced rent increases for 2011/2012 and the studio has gone up 20% and the flats up 14% which has pissed us off royally.
Its still competitively priced but not if the rent is going to rise that much each year!

Was hoping someone with an old building in digbeth would let us rent out a floor to live and work in but who owns those buildings? No one seems to know!

Dibs if your serious, wont even live there. Just need somewhere to store some special apparatus. (not drug related)

just a pee take...need to keep it free for working at home =)
