    my new build

If you run that brakeless you might want to consider a more robust rear tyre. What you have on there might only last a couple of weeks. I'd also suggest a top tube protector to cover up those cable braze-ons on the top tube (or hack them off) because it sucks when one catches you in the crotch. Otherwise looks fun.

  • Nice Thomas, What frame?

    Surly Steamroller. Formerly Pistaboy's

  • Nice nice. Building mine tonight/tomorrow.

  • @Zuou: yeah i will defo get a fatter tyre for the back. and how would i hack them off?

  • Depends if it's a nice frame or not (wouldn't want to kill a puppy!) A hacksaw and a file is best, being careful not to take too much metal off.

  • bought it for a tenner from a charity shop but im unsure what make it is the only sticker on it is a reynolds cr-mo sticker. so if anyone know what frame builder it could be please share. gonna hacksaw them off and use a file to give it a nice finish.

    Nice! What bars are those?

Northroad copies of ebay... Considering selling them if the bike doesn't sell?

Its hard to hacksaw them off neatly, you need a good quality file to smooth them out. Or find someone with a blow torch and melt them off.

    This would work:

  • if you have access to a 5 inch grinder i have cutting discs that would piss through them....evil thngs though if your not used to handling a grinder.

    1mm Inox cutting wheels....satans choice.

What size frame is it / price are you thinking? Oh and if you split I might like the bars. Thought they were Northroads.

Would a Dremel do it if you hacked the bulk off first? If so, (and owner is in London) welcome to bring it to my studio and borrow...

  • too large for a dremel, grinder only (mounting hole)

if your not used to a grinder do not use, one catch of the wheel and good bye fingers.

  • I have a grinder too as it happens but wondered about the precision necessary... Will be taking the pump holders off my beater frame at some point (dig into my shoulder when I'm lugging it up the stairs) hope I can retain all my digits in the process!

  • you have to be very very very carefull with them, one twist above complete flat angle in usage or a shatter..ouchy.

put it this way..a 50 pack of those...cordless grinder...car cut in 2 pieces.

welcome to a few. but be very very carefull with them.

  • Noted! I might just hack and file with a bit of elbow grease. See how I get on.

  • Hack & file with a liberal dose of elbow grease will be fine. Just take your time.

  • blow torch seems fun so i will try that or i will get a tin of that elbow grease.

The blow torch is a bit OTT if you dont own on already, they cost about £70. But If you know someone with one /9perhaps at a school/college) it is the neatest most professional way to do it.

sawing the guides ofd is dead easy, its the lumps of brass solder underneath which are a pain to file smooth. Poundshop files dont work!

  • And the use of heat on metal that has been tempered might be a bit iffy too.

    Nonsense - its technical jargon.
    As is
    "Unit"
    "Lard-butt"
    "Heffer"
    "Salad dodger".

  • I quite like salad.
