Rod brakes

  • Bought an old triumph with it rod brakes still on it. The problem is i have got a flat on the front wheel but i cant get the wheel off because the brake is hooked around it. Just wondered if anyone knows how to get a wheel off with out having to reset the brake?

  • PM HyperAllah, he has a similar bike.

  • removing the brake blocks usually give you enough room to wiggle the rim out. Pump up the tyre once back on the bike.

  • safe i will try that now

better, thats still in W1 round the corner from Oxford st, not in Birmingham though ;-)

  • If it was W1 there'd be 30,000 people crammed on that tiny stretch of pavement and about 4000 cabs, white vans and lorries on the street.
Probably some sort of crime going on too, and a celebtard or three in the background.
And the Queen, she'd be in the picture too...

  • You can patch it with the wheel on.

  • the man i bought it off said hadn't rode it in a while so i would just rather replace the whole tube. will do that tho if i get another puncture on the new tube. cheers

  • It's in Birmingham, corner of Edmund Street and Margaret Street, near the Birmingham Museum and Central Library etc.
