Three times if you count that dead one. I tried not to look at it but wish I had now as it might have aided ID.[strike] Pretty sure now they weren't muntjacs, they look like this:[/strike]
Actually scratch that, apparently muntjac can be found all over Essex and that one by the side of the road was small and that colour.

Actually I think they were Roe deer. Which means that bevy is the correct word.

The Up the 'Uts rides on Saturday (12th March). I'll be doing the 200 as a PBP qualifier, there are also 150km and 100km rides.
Easier to get to on the train as they start at half past the hour (8.30 for the 200, 9.30 for the 150 and 10.30 for the 100) which ties up better with the hourly trains from London that get in at 52 mins past the hour.

What about this one: http://www.aukweb.net/events/detail/11-102/ - Sunday 17th, Maidenhead.

I did a 35-40 mile loop from Maidenhead last night. What a fucking 80s-throwback shithole; in stark contrast to the surrounding countryside.
PS. Limited space for bicycles on fast trains, and some surly staff, so best go for a slower one (some of which do have some excellent niches for 4 cycles, plus the doorways)

The Up the 'Uts rides on Saturday (12th March). I'll be doing the 200 as a PBP qualifier, there are also 150km and 100km rides.
Got round in 11h25 but it's 16km over distance and I had a 25 minute stop to fix a puncture in the pitch black middle of nowhere just 5km from the end. I passed the 200km mark after 10h09 which isn't too shabby for me in March. Herts/Essex is very fixed friendly although it did go up through Widdington, Thaxted, Elmdon and Chrishall (the last two after 180km, which is nice).
230km for the day, had a nice long soak in the bath and just finishing my beer before going to sleep like a log.
1/4 PBP qualifiers done (or 2/15 distance wise).

Nice work Greenbank.
200 sounds like more than simply two times as hard as 100...
Bill, if you read this, Maidenhead is a maybe... I'll get back to you.

Aha!
The distance of the event was listed as 107k. This number is on the route sheet. Nice route, especially the second half.
