  • On a serious note, i'm getting a bit worried about how long my polo bike is going to last as it all seems to be on it's last legs.

I'm also about to start building a fixie for the Berlin ride. So as I'm still relatively new to bike mechanics could I pester some people for help/advice/parts over the next few weeks. @Dan maybe I could come into the shop on a quiet day?

    :D

EMM, my innate bias aside, a polo bike is much more specific and the thing you should spend your money on. Everyone tries to do it uber-cheap, but old bikes are your enemy because of stupid imperial wheels and shit brakes. Pompino or a retro MTB like Pete's are all you'll ever need, and can be got for a few hundred.

You can beg/borrow/steal something much more suitable for touring than a fixie (I know you're thinking of the sponsorship angle, but really, fixed is going to be horrible - singlespeed okay, but take a test ride with luggage on your fixie...)

Come in and discuss budgets/options with me. PM me with times when you're free.

Matt, you're my hero. Sorry I was so tired today/couldn't have a coherent chat/was too interested in megaphone reffing!

  • Rio

nice team name without the darren darren

  • is there anyone else we could badger for free stuff?

Tell me if I'm over stepping the mark, but I just wanted to say the same schpeel I give to London teams. The more freebies you get from sponsors/companies for your teams/players, the less they feel the need to support polo events, leagues, beginner sessions, tournaments, etc.

I'm not syaing don't do it, I'm just saying always try to give sponsors reports, feedback, news, whatever. You're part of the ongoing battle to keep bike polo as being seen to be an awesome sport to be involved with.

  • My reason for contacting Brooks was to ask if they would be able to help in our search for an indoor court, or sponsor a tournament. They said they couldn't do anything, because they already sponsor much higher-profile events, but would happily send us saddles for our two best teams.

It's a nice little freebie, but not something I'm going to look into more.

  • WTF is a schpeel?

  • WTF is a schpeel?

an inferiour word to blapse. Fact.

  • they already sponsor much higher-profile events

Yep, I got a similar response last year... they support the Euros and Worlds heavily and sponsor some teams, but weren't interested in "another tourney", slightly disappointing.

  • got the info on the goal material (5 metres of 4mm ally) its 33 squid, some more for the uprights and nets, i reckon around 40 to 50 quid to make a set. Bending, fabtrication etc foc..work foreigner..me and a mate get paid anyway...

Ill gladly put the money forward to get them built etc, no worries, would be cool if it was a community thing and everyone chipped in? prolly a fiver each...material is on hold btw, if we all agree i can get it ordered this friday,
