On a serious note, i'm getting a bit worried about how long my polo bike is going to last as it all seems to be on it's last legs.
I'm also about to start building a fixie for the Berlin ride. So as I'm still relatively new to bike mechanics could I pester some people for help/advice/parts over the next few weeks. @Dan maybe I could come into the shop on a quiet day?
:D
EMM, my innate bias aside, a polo bike is much more specific and the thing you should spend your money on. Everyone tries to do it uber-cheap, but old bikes are your enemy because of stupid imperial wheels and shit brakes. Pompino or a retro MTB like Pete's are all you'll ever need, and can be got for a few hundred.
You can beg/borrow/steal something much more suitable for touring than a fixie (I know you're thinking of the sponsorship angle, but really, fixed is going to be horrible - singlespeed okay, but take a test ride with luggage on your fixie...)
Come in and discuss budgets/options with me. PM me with times when you're free.
