Earthquake in Japan

Have just been watching the world news footage of this..... It's pretty shocking. The footage of the tsunami is crazy.
I have been in contact with freinds in Tokyo, apparently the city is at a complete standstill.

Hope all is well with our members over in the land of the rising sun.

largest earthquake to ever hit Japan. Wow. Hope their bendy buildings saved some lives.

It's the tsunami's you want to worry about.
Tsunami warnings have gone out to pretty much every country with a pacific coastline..... but apparently most have only getting minor swells so far.

It was the poor bastard stood on the back of his flat-bed that was just stood there waiting to die that got me. Truely shocking.

Haven't heard from my friends today, but I'm sure they're ok.

The Red Cross have been warning people that the height of Tsunami waves could be more than the above-sea level of some of the smaller inhabited pacific islands.

Haven't heard from my friends (beppu shi, oita) although it's coastal, I believe it's protected (hopefully) as its kind of inland. Thoughts go out to those that are affected.

The footage of the cars caught on the road in sendai trying to turn around or drive across the fields is terrifying.

ive just heard that the waves hitting the west coast of the US were still 6 feet. not the 33 feet they expected like the haiti tsunami, but the devastation in japan is just incredible. so very very sad :(

It's been on my mind all day. Seriously sad. Thoughts and prayers to anyone in Japan and anyone on the pacific coast.

saw some footage of cars and a lone bloke running for his life, heart breaking, the total destruction of the wave was mesmerising and horrifying at the same time.

Woke up to this, fucking awful... Just been catching up on events now and seen the footage of the tsunami completely destroying all the buildings in a little seaside village... Incredible, frightening, humbling... Hope the casualty count is low, sounds like they were very well prepared... x

it's not. Apparently japanese newspapers are saying it will be over 1000 casualties.

I think Japan will be lucky if it's only 1000 dead... Epic disaster...

Have some good friends in Japan, was over there in April, all my thoughts are with them.

Massive earthquake + Tsunami + Massive explosion at nuclear plant + real chance of nuclear meltdown.

Terrible stuff, it just seems to be one disaster on top of another.
