didn't think it was worthy of a brand new thread, but olympic tickets go on sale next week. might be worth hoarding cheap seats for an event or two- you have a year and a half to figure out logistics.

I was looking at the schedules for this with interest. What bothers me is that tickets for the events that I'd really like to attend, the ones that also attract the greatest interest, are very expensive. Ok I suppose I should have expected that, but £325 per ticket for the best seats at the track cycling? Even the cheap seats for most track cycling events are £50 each, so for a family of four that's £200 for a couple of hours of entertainment. That's before you factor-in travel and accommodation costs!
Having to rethink my plans. Now looking at cheaper seats, offsetting costs by also attending cheap or free events like the roadracing and spreading it all over several days to make more of a holiday of it.
You are also limited to a maximum of 4 tickets for most events, so no 'hoarding'.

Ridiculous, isn't it, that as a lifelong supporter of British sport I'd been looking forward to this once-in-a-lifetime experience and I probably wont be able to afford to see much of the Olympics live? Whereas the corporate schmoozers who may not have any interest in sport whatsoever will be filling the best seats. And now I read that people are actually considering going to watch 'le Tour', abroad, instead.
Sour grapes on my part? Maybe, but just another example of the average man in the street (and his family) being priced out of these kind of things, IMHO. Nige, I imagine this has your Marxist sensibilities firing off like an explosion in a fireworks factory.
FarkenSebCoethetorybastard-IalwayspreferredSteveOvettanywaysPerhaps it's unreasonable of me to feel let down by all of this, but I do. Gutted

Sorry Tom, bit of a misunderstanding here. I have no problem with people choosing to watch le Tour, it's an unique spectacle in its own right and I'd love to go sometime. I was just drawing attention to the possibility that it might be cheaper to travel to another country to watch a sporting event there than to watch the Olympics in your own back yard. Scandalous
