Happen to me on an old bike that hasn't been chased, mechanic managed to take it off, although not sure how.
as mdcc said, good quality nuts make all the difference as well as applying grease before inserting it in, it's the best way to ensure it'll come off, work wonder when I tried to install mudguard and it's a little tricky trying to screw it in without grease.
