Blah, I'll play along.
Commuter racing is pointless but sometimes entertaining. I used to have a reasonably long commute and there were one or two people who would play ball. Safe and considerate fun was had with these known faces. Didn't bother 'racing' randoms, didn't give it a competitive edge, did not bathe in the blood of defeated foes, just enjoyed the hour blast each way, more often than not by myself.[QUOTE]
I totally agree, it just a bit of fun if done right ... I ain't ever a twat about it. It is just a bit of fun .. but I do enjoy beating them if I am on an "inferior machine" ... just a little satisfaction that I ain't totally shit.
[quote=6pt;2011123]This whole glory of trouncing people on bigger/better bikes, lycra whatever. Petty bullshit. It's just as petty when they have a go with you because you're not on carbon or wearing lycra. Dickheads all round, but there's no real problem with that, it's how things work.
In all seriousness I feel like I have to play Devil advocate because they are all lycra/carbon people. It pains me when I have a decent work bike and people slag it off because it ain't "the latest and greatest" ..
Also, not fast; I fear I am one of these "twats who ride sportives and obsess about getting their time to a fraction of a second, but won't man up and enter an actual race." Suits me for now, 'til I get my act together and start doing things properly.
The bikeradar arrows was as much a facetious gesture as it was an informative one, they have a hierarchy and rules and lots of people who take it seriously enough, no harm in giving it a read through if it matches your mindset. Must be some Dorset types you can track down and run in to the ground, or maybe you'll end up as just another notch on the toptube.
I have heard you cycled up lychette matravers the wrong way in the big ring ... IMO you must be fast.
