    I was once told by an experienced (high end) bike dealer - if you want a bike to last, look at what the pros use in the Classics - frames a dnwheels built to last jumping kerbs at 40mph,, cobbles, crashes etc - Merckx and Colnago (among others) are two of those builders who avoid the superlight approach and ensure strength and quality primarily. The ride is wonderful - solid, stiff and re-assuring, as befits a bike made to deal with Belgian cobbles and short, steep climbs in the lashing rain - confidence inspiring.
