I have one of these (as sold by number6) which apparently work on road frames:
Would depend on your specific drop outs but cheap, work well and worth a shot.
If you are near W London I can give you one in exchange for a few quid (unused since I bought too many off him)
(also only just realised that in that picture he hasn't put a bolt on...not a recommended way of assembling....)
