It’s a new year and a new start for the Forum Book.
As some of you may or may not know the idea of a coffee table book documenting the forum was floated more than two years ago. A book by the forum, for the forum, designed to document this place we use so extensively and all the great/exciting/social/competitive things we do outside of being keyboard warriors in front of our computers. Everyone who contributes, buys a book, lots of you who can’t/won’t/don’t want to contribute but want a coffee table book sized piece of the forum buy a book, and we provide a big fat donation to keep LFGSS going into 2012 and beyond.
Due to unforeseen circumstances it had to be put on hiatus, but now it is back. And myself and Photoben are bound and determined to get this published by the end of this year (year of our forum 2011). So there have been quite a few new members who have joined since it was first thought of so find the original link to the book thread here… http://www.lfgss.com/thread21480.html
If you didn't know abut the book, now is the chance to submit some work. I had discussions with Jono before he went off to Oz, and we came up with a couple of bits which we thought would be great to be included in the polo section. If you have any more ideas for submissions, just fill in the form and ping them across to the email below.
The book is going to be tilted towards photographic/design/ilustration work, so approximately 70% imagery, 30% text, and will be covering various topics, but I'm here to make sure that the Polo section has pieces from you the polo players, rather than me wittering on from the outside.
These are the ideas that myself and Jono thought would be interesting to do. Ideally I'd like someone to pick one of the pieces below and run with it, and send us the finished piece. But if you have a better/more interesting idea then I'm cool with you running with that and sending it through.
Why I play polo? Why I love polo, as everyone has a different story on when they started playing and what they like about it, etc? (prose)
The "evolution of a polo bike" a series of photo's showing how a polo bike has changed over time. and/or a piece on frame design for polo bikes, archie wilkinson, d.a.m.p, shop 14, different solutions to the same problems, speaking to those who ride them to explain the differences that have been designed in from a normal frame.
A piece on mallet changes over time, probably photo's ? Pique Jono says you started documenting mallet upgrades/fads a year or so back, so hopefully you should have lots of photos, etc.
A tourney diary/photo story I'm hoping someone took lots of shots in Rouen and/or Karlsruhe to supplement images I've got from Sol/Slamm and Wiganwill, of previous tourneys/throwin's
Polo family tree (team history) showing how interconnected some of the london teams and players are, as teams are created, folded or merged (illustration/design)
links to/photo's of london/uk polo t-shirts
a prose account of whats it like to play in a polo tourney.
a prose piece on how your polo bike becomes your only bike.
again if you have any other ideas then do email them through.
So what we need you to do now is start emailing ideas, thoughts/suggestions, photo’s
So start sending through your submissions to us at lfgss.book@gmail.com
