Thanks for tip about vet and chip. I brought it to a vet in Dalston Lane who told me it didn't have one.
Anyhow, cat was already stone cold dead when I found it this morning. Most presumably hit by a car then crawled into where I work to die in peace.
Vet will dispose of the remains. Case closed I'm afraid. I'm not going to post a pic.
