Wolverhampton, Coventry and many other midland towns suffered from ridiculous road building schemes that separated the centre from the suburbs with motorway like ring roads that discouraged people from visiting the centre. Shame really as these town centres had a lot going for them
They also prevent growth, like a collar. Very hard for a business to thrive just outside the ringroad.
